RIGHTEOUSNESS and HOLINESS

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

For they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

I am beginning to see more and more that the Lord is always taking us through situations to help us become more dependent upon Him, to trust Him more, He is ever increasing our faith. This is what He did with all of the Bible characters for our examples. The reason for this process is to eliminate pride and increase humility. Pride is depending upon yourself and giving yourself credit; humility is depending upon God and giving God the credit. (1 Peter 5:5-7 NKJV) … “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” {6} Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, {7} casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

When we first came to Jesus for salvation from our sins and to be adopted as children of God, we came humbly, as little children, saying to our Lord have mercy on me a sinner. In our humble state we received the grace of God in our lives, and experienced our first love. (Matthew 18:2-4 NKJV) Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, {3} and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. {4} “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Why did Jesus say that whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Because there is no other way to enter the kingdom, and no other way to live in righteousness and holiness in the kingdom. Just as we are saved by God’s grace, His mercy and compassion, we are also kept by God’s grace, mercy, and compassion. The truth is God’s grace was at work in us and for us before we ever came to Christ. (Ephesians 1:2-6 NIV) Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. {3} Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. {4} For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love {5} he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will– {6} to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
